It seemed only fitting with spring on the horizon to make a stop at the Cistern yard, part of the College of Charleston and its oldest building, to see the beautiful flowers in bloom. Part of the college’s charm is it’s beautiful historic campus. Every May you will find graduating students crossing the outdoor stage in the Cistern yard to collect their diploma. Since I graduated in the winter, the ceremonies were held inside where it was warm.
The college has an interesting graduating tradition. Instead of the usual robes and caps for the graduates, in the spring women wear white dresses and men white jackets. In the winter the women wear black dresses and men black tuxedos. I used to tell my professors I would graduate in the winter, since I looked best in black.
Sidebar: I found this Rebecca Taylor dress at TJ Maxx and grabbed it. I’ve own a few of her dresses over the years and they really hold up. It’s lined and has a nice weight to it and feels luxurious. It was a tad cool so I layered it with my jean jacket and mules. It’s sleeveless and would make a wonderful spring and summer dress.
Styling my way through life.
