The cold weather has peaked my interest in sweaters again – at least winter sweaters. These are some of my favorites and the best news is that they’re on sale.
When I’m buying a sweater on sale (which is most of the time) I look for sweaters that have a long shelf life.
Things I look for:
- Good quality fabric: one that holds its shape and won’t pill (although that’s a tough one) -merino wool is one of the better fabrics for not pilling), although I do love the feel of cashmere.
- Basic styles and colors: style; turtlenecks, crew necks and cardigans are always a safe bet – colors; blacks, browns, blues, whites and beige’s are good staple colors.
- Trendy: I love to add a trendy sweater from time to time, but only if I see a future for it (as in the next couple of seasons). Keep in mind trendy can be both style and color.
- Inventory your closet: Before shopping make a list of things that would improve your wardrobe and give you more mix and match options. I’ve learned the hard way. I used to buy items because I loved them and when I got it home realized I had very few pairing options. Unfortunately, it sat in my closet more than it was worn.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Have fun and be safe!
