In honor of National Ugly Sweater Day I’m posting a twenty-five year old sweater that has been deemed “ugly”. For the record, I love the sweater. It was only when I tried to look up the designer did I discover it was on the ugly list.
I remember buying this sweater for a family Christmas party and wearing it to several social events. It was a bit pricey, but I was smitten with the abstract design. There was never any fear of someone else wearing one to the same event. Ha-ha. The designer is Robyn Malcolm and you can find some of her other designs on Poshmark or ebay… peak at your own risk.
I generally pair this sweater with black, because it really showcases the design. A sweater this colorful is nothing short of the main character, so I like to give her, her due. It can be worn open over a top or buttoned up and alone. Today I layered it over a black turtleneck and buttoned it half way up. The buttons are the coolest part of the sweater.
I paired it with Mother black jeans, Ann Taylor blue suede pumps, Zara pearl earrings, Chloe small cross-body bag and Tory Burch sunnies for a casual ugly sweater look. Since “tis the season” the earrings add some glam to the outfit.
This is a great example of how beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I loved this sweater then and I love it now. I’ll admit it’s a bit different, but I would never call it ugly. So if you have a sweater deemed ugly, put that baby on and wear it with pride. Have a fabulous “Ugly Sweater” day.
