Thursday was all about food and shopping. We always plan on one day to visit Michigan Avenue during our Chicago trips. This part of town is better known as the Magnificent Mile. It’s a shopper’s paradise. And I tried not to think about tomorrow’s farewell.
We started the morning at my favorite breakfast restaurant, Le Pain Quotidien. I love their avocado toast topped with an egg. I also ordered a poppy seed muffin for later, but it looked so good I ate the whole thing before we left.
We window-shopped for a while before heading to Uniqlo, one of my new favorite stores. Last year I bought a dress, top and skirt and was very impressed with the quality. Sydney and I spent a good bit of time trying on lots of clothes. Later this week I’ll be blogging a pair of high waisted wide legged denim pants I got on this trip.
Trying on clothes is an activity in itself, let alone all those miles we walked. One needs nourishment. We took an Urber over to Wicker Park and stopped at Dove’s Lunchette for a glass of wine and a potato appetizer. I’m sure we had the best seat in the house.
We ended the night at Rootstock, a small cozy restaurant in Humboldt Park. We shared a charcuterie plate, before biting into a most delicious hamburger. If you’re ever around Humboldt Park I highly recommend a stop. The night was young, but we were exhausted so we headed back for a good night sleep before the dreaded goodbye to my girl.
We were up and at ’em before heading to the airport. We had time to grab breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien again, stop in at Bloomingdale’s Home store and walk to the river for one last view.
The outside of the Bloomingdale’s building is gorgeous, yet we’d never been inside. We browsed the store today and wow. When the majority of items have no price tag, well I should just look.
It was a warmer day in Chicago and also at home so I pulled out my Topshop coat and packed my heavier one. I like to be comfortable when I travel so these lightweight Club Monaco track pants were perfect. They paired nicely with my new Uniqlo cashmere turtleneck (on sale for $49.94), white Anthropologie booties, socks and J Crew earrings. I brought two bags on this trip, my Loewe bag (shown), which was ideal for travel by air or by foot because it holds a lot and a small bag for dinner.
I can never ever leave her without crying. I still remember dropping her off at college in 2010 and driving away in the cab thinking my heart was being torn from my chest. Today it’s easier, because she is so happy and has found a home away from home (for now).
