Too often we purchase new items and forget about what undergarments will best suit our style. For example, large armhole tops and dresses can create a dilemma. We want to wear them, but going it alone isn’t what we have in mind. Owning a stable of different styled undergarments gives you pairing options for this situation.
I love this Free People white top with its cowl neck and large armholes; it’s the perfect summer basic top. There are no set rules on what to pair underneath it. Your personal style and comfort level should guide you. However, you need options so I recommend having one of each of the following: bandeau, bralette, racerback bra or bralette, strapless and at least one pretty colorful bra.
For a casual look I paired this Free People top with Aubade Charme D’Eden bra, GRLFRND jeans, Zara red slides, J Crew gold dangles (on sale $10.99) and Loewe bag. I’m fond of the navy floral pattern in the bra and liked how it matched my jeans. I usually wear a bandeau with these style tops or dresses, but decided to switch it up. It makes no sense to me why some people perceive a difference between a bathing suit top and a colorful bra. Some women wear tops like this without any undergarment at all. That would not be a comfortable style for me, but I support other women’s choices.
Here are some choices based on my recommendations above:
You can find racerback bras under bralettes. Keep in mind that a strapless will often work just as well unless the back of the dress or blouse is cut below the bra line.
“Life is short and then we die” is one of my favorite sayings. It reminds us to live our lives without worrying so much what other people think. The only opinion that truly matters is your own.
Happy new week!
PS. What’s your favorite undergarment?
