Slipping into stripes on a hot summer day is like a small slice of heaven.  Once the humidity soars clothes just stick to your skin. I love the loose fitting design of this pretty Club Monaco slip-dress because it keeps me calm, cool and collected.  Since we were headed out to dinner I dressed it up a tad with Donald J Pliner silver sandals, Botkier bag and some vintage earrings and necklace.  Keeping cool in silver and blue was my theme.

I’m often amazed at what I find in my jewelry box. There are things that I forgot I had.  I purchased these earrings and necklace years ago when I attended an Estee Lauder sales meeting.  We often received time off to shop or tour the city between work activities.  They were one of the best and most generous companies I’ve ever worked for.

When I stumbled across them, both the earrings and necklace were dark from tarnish.  It didn’t take much to get them sparkling again.  These days I would never buy something that needed polishing.  My life is busy enough without adding more to my “to-do” list.  I am a big advocate of spending our time taking better care of us rather than spending that time taking care of things.

I love the back on this Club Monaco slip-dress. One day in Chicago I wore this super casual with my Rachel Comey slides and Kayu straw bucket bag, which was perfect for tooling around downtown.  When it was dinnertime I swapped to my Tabitha Simmons white sling-backs and Botkier bag.

More often than not, I grab a lightweight jacket or sweater in case the restaurant is cold.  This Oak + Fort cream jacket is one I grab often.  It is several seasons old, so something you have in your closet could work great as well.  Even a denim jacket would look super cool.
