All black is a great monochromatic look and easy to pull together. However, try mixing patterns and textures to elevate your black outfit. This creates some interesting pizzazz. Plus there’s nothing wrong, and a lot right, if you want to add a pop of color with your shoes, boots, handbags or accessories.
This DOEN River top has a beautiful delicate pattern, big ruffles and dainty white buttons. It will easily pair with most pants and skirts. Denim pants are the most common staples in my closet and I love dressing them up. These Madewell Cali demi-boot jeans worked well with this DOEN River top for a casual chic look. To add interest I paired these Zara striped slingbacks, Anthropologie rhinestone earrings, and this Volon animal print bag to complete the outfit. Animal prints are trending this season and you cannot go wrong by incorporating it into any look.
Although this blouse is black, it has a lot going on with a mix of textures and patterns. It is a statement piece, so when pairing it with black I like the other pieces (like the purse) to add textural interest, but not compete. If the blouse was on the plainer side then I might add pops of color. This DOEN River top would also look fabulous with cream dress pants or skirt.
If you are in the market for an animal print bag you can take a peek at some of my favorites on the following link: Animal Print Bags Are The Rage.
Let’s say you have a simple knee-length black dress and you want a dressed up, chic look. You could easily pair it with black pumps or booties, small animal print bag, gold or pearl accessories and top it with a knee length camel coat. Conversely you could pair that same dress with any color funky-heeled shoes, large bag, statement earrings and checkered belted blazer for a trendy look.
The next time you wear all black, don’t hesitate to experiment with patterns, textures and accessories that add pops of color. There isn’t enough time to exhaust all the possibilities, so I suggest starting now.
We’ve decided to stay home and sit out Florence, even with her somewhat irrational forecast. I do pray for the safety of everyone that may encounter her wrath. And remember, being on the road with panicky people might be just as dangerous. Be safe friends, wherever you are.
